We take the maintenance and upkeep of our classic Volkswagen Type 2s seriously, and know the first and most important thing is to keep your Volkswagen Bay Bus oil topped up with the correct amount and right type of VW Bay Window engine oil. Doing this is the first step in ensuring longevity and good running conditions.
Many people believe air is what keeps a VW Bay Window engine cool, but in fact the oil flowing around it does a significant part of the job too, so regularly changing your Bay Window engine oil is vital in helping it last. At Heritage Parts Centre, as well as all the VW Bay Window parts you could need, we stock a range of VW Type 2 engine oils designed especially for use in air-cooled engines from renowned specialists such as Castrol, Morris and Quantum. We recommend any of these for use in your Volkswagen Bay Window Bus.
It’s not just Volkswagen Camper engine oil we stock on the shelves at Heritage Parts Centre we also keep VW Bay Window gearbox oil, steering box oil, VW Type 2 automatic transmission fluid, Bay Window brake fluid, screenwash and various types of grease and assembly lube, all selected by our in-house specialists to be the perfect match with your Volkswagen Bay Window Bus.
Going on a roadtrip? Make sure you have packed yourself spare VW Bay Window screen wash, and additional Type 2 Brake fluid too. You don’t want to get caught short.
Lastly, don’t forget to add a can of VW Bus brake cleaner to your next order. No garage should be without this as it can be used to clean and degrease parts during disassembly and help clean up after leaks and spills.

During a 25 year production period VW Mexico produced 250,000 Type 2s. The Mexican Bay went through a similar development process to that of the Brazilian equivalent, with a water-cooled motor being offered in 1987, and the roofline changing to the more elevated design in 1991. In 1996 production of Bays in Mexico ceased, and until VW decided to discontinue the Type 2 in Mexico after 30 years in 2001 all remaining buses were imported from Brazil.
