STANDARD VW BRAKES
VW Heritage supply brake parts and components for most classic VW brake systems, but it is important you check the type of VW brakes fitted to your vehicle before you order…
VW drum brakes consist of a hollow drum behind the wheel with curved brake shoes positioned inside the drum. When the brakes are activated the shoes push against the drum's inner wall and the friction slows the vehicle.
VW disc brakes have a narrow disc in place of the drum, with a calliper that sits over the edge of the disc. On braking, the calliper squeezes a pair of brake pads together, which clamp around the disc, slowing the vehicle.
VW Beetle brakes had five stud wheels with drums all round until 1967. From 1968 onwards they switched to four stud wheels, keeping drum brakes at the rear, but not always at the front. If you have a 1968 onward car, please check the front wheels to see if your model has discs or drums.
VW Camper Van brakes had drums all round until 1970. From 1971 onwards they kept drums at the rear, but switched to disc brakes at the front.
AFTERMARKET VW BRAKES
In addition to the standard VW brake parts and spares stocked by VW Heritage, Street Style and Power supply a huge range of aftermarket VW brake components for upgraded and high performance braking systems…
Options include vented brake discs, steel braided brake hoses and high performance master cylinders as well as a wide range of disc brake conversion kits, allowing you to convert inefficient early drum brake vehicles to superior modern calliper brakes.
